Our little man turned 4 in September. It is quite amazing how quickly time flies, especially when you are having fun and trying to figure out this amazing adventure called life. I can’t believe that 4 years ago our lives were forever changed and I could not be more glad that they were. I love this little guy to death.
He wakes up early no matter how crazy the day before was. He talks a mile a minute and always has something to say. The early rising and constant talking poses a problem because Lindsay isn’t fully functioning until she has at least one cup of coffee. He loves to help with projects and can fix anything with his plastic drill and trusty sidekick, Puppy. He loves being outside, exploring, going on adventures, and his little slice of heaven on earth is at Pops’ cabin in Ellijay, GA.
This has been an interesting year to say the least. Everything from becoming potty trained, to crying and screaming bloody murder (even at the hinting of the fact that he has a doctor or dentist appointment coming up). The most unique experience has been his consistent night terrors which have the opportunity to be incredibly creepy. During one of these… nightly events, he is inconsolable, and when you look into his optic stems, the windows of his soul, you see a nothingness that will scare the bajesus out of you.
As I reflect over the good, bad, and creepy this year, I have come to the realization that I need to really step up my game and help Sam see what it means to live out God’s calling of being an authentic man who passionately loves his God, his wife, and his family. I realize this starts with him understanding that his daddy spends time with his heavenly father every day. After that, it is all about loving mommy and sacrificing some things to serve her and the family better.
I am looking forward to this upcoming year being a foundational one full of intentional adventures, projects, and conversations about God. At the end of this year, I want Sam to understand that God calls us to be authentic men pursuing Him and the life He has called us into. I have a funny feeling that this will be the year full of the biggest adventures yet.
