Be Weary Of Your Goals

Your health is probably one of the most important aspects of your life.  It is quite literally the driving force of what you are able or unable to do.  8 Months ago I decided that I needed to change some things about my health and so I dived headfirst into this journey of health wanting to lose about 30 lbs.  It took much longer than I anticipated to reach my goal, but I was able to accomplish my goal and when I did… I honestly didn’t feel much better.  Part of that was because my goal was tied to a number instead of my over all health and what it would mean for my family if I was healthy.  As I thought about all of this, it dawned on me that goals that are focused on just us are worthless.

With this very driven personality of mine I may have recently pushed my body to the max and caused quite a bit of strain on my body.  This strain has now caused me to go into physical therapy because when I am running, there is a slight pain that slowly and surely ends up gnawing on me throughout the run and into my day.  I took this goal of being able to do whatever, whenever, with my kids too far too fast.  The worst part about this is Lindsay had been telling me to pump the breaks for months and was worrying that I would do something to myself.  As always, she was right, and I should have listened to her.

#ProTip: Men, listen to your wife.  It is amazing how much wisdom she has and has been blessed with.  Pull up your britches, suck it up, forget the ego, and just listen.

Goals, they are absolutely needed and help you move your story forward.  Make sure that your goals will have a positive impact on you and those around you, and that you don’t kill yourself in the process of trying to reach them.
