Nuts, Our World Is Changing

Just recently our family’s world was shaken as we found out what, and how many, allergies our daughter has.  Peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, and eggs.  Each of those by themselves isn’t too awful, but in conjunction with each other, it is a massive game changer and makes it nearly impossible to shop for groceries.  I’m just glad shellfish, fish, soy, and anything else didn’t decide to jump into the mix.

Since this discovery, it has been a stressful time in the Stippich household.  My wife quite literally cried for three days straight after we found out the results, and I am still unsure as to whether I have fully processed what is going on.  Our sweet little angel’s life has been completely altered, and not just for a day or two, but for the rest of her life.  Yes, some of these allergies can go away, but others can actually join in on the fun, and with each allergic reaction that takes place, they get progressively worse.

Now, enough of all this negativity.  The more I think about this journey we have been put on, the more I realize that life is going to be more than OK.  I realize that life, and my kids, are overall pretty good. In the grand scheme of things, this is just a little road bump. I am not trying to downplay anything.  I know that consuming these allergens could literally send my daughter to the hospital or take her life, but still… there is something amazing going on.

I fully believe that God has us exactly where he wants us.  I fully believe that seven years ago, heck, even three years ago, we couldn’t have handled news like this.  The Lord has slowly been preparing us for this journey, and even though I am not thrilled about the situation, I know it will all be used for His good and His glory.

We have come from places where seven years ago Lindsay was dealing with major anxiety and I was dealing with issues relating to my value and worth as an individual, along with my general lack of empathy  and immaturity.  God has been slowly preparing us over the years to be the parents needed to shepherd and lead our kids.

Yes, our lives are forever changed, but they are forever changed for the better.  I am thrilled that through all of this Lindsay is starting a blog.  In her blog there will be some helpful hints as it relates to food items and brands to buy, recipes to cook, and most importantly, she is adding some positivity into an area of life that is filled with such negativity, fear, and frustration.

Please join us on this journey and know that whatever you are going through, and no matter how much life may suck, this is just a little road bump.
